Frequently Asked Questions
How much do you pay, and how is payment made?
We pay R0.60 per kg (R600 per metric tonne) for crushed glass cullet and R0.50 per kg (R500 per metric tonne) for whole, uncrushed bottles and jars. For commercial bulk supplies of 40–50+ tonnes, higher rates (up to R0.65/kg) can be negotiated.
Payment is processed promptly upon certified scale weighing at our Mkondeni depot, or via direct bank transfer once collection loads are verified.
Do you collect glass, and what are the minimum load requirements?
Yes, we collect using our heavy transport trucks. Minimum collection requirements are strictly determined by distance from our Pietermaritzburg processing depot:
- Depot Self-Delivery (Mkondeni, PMB): NO MINIMUM. Deliver any amount (from a single bakkie or trailer to full loads) for immediate scale payout.
- Local PMB & Midlands (< 1–2 hours): Flexible commercial batches (typically 20 metric tonnes / 20 bulk bags agreed upon review).
- Outside KZN & Long Distance (Gauteng, Eastern Cape, Mpumalanga, etc.): STRICT MINIMUM OF 34 METRIC TONNES (34 bulk bags). Due to high diesel, driver, and toll costs, collections below 34 tonnes outside KZN are not commercially viable.
Do you supply 1-tonne bulk bags (amasaka) or crushing machines?
NO. Amabongo Solutions does not sell, supply, or loan bulk bags or crushing machinery. Sellers must provide their own heavy-duty 1-tonne woven bulk bags (jumbo bags) sourced from local industrial packaging suppliers.
Who loads the collection truck? Do you bring a forklift?
Our collection trucks do NOT travel with forklifts. The seller is responsible for arranging 3 to 4 strong helpers on-site to assist with manually loading the bulk bags onto the truck bed.
Do I need to wash or colour-separate bottles?
NO. You do not need to wash bottles or remove labels. Minor dust and liquid residue are completely acceptable. We accept mixed bottle glass (amber, flint, and green) as well as colour-sorted cullet.
Why does crushed glass pay more than whole bottles?
Crushed glass cullet pays R0.60/kg (R600/t) vs R0.50/kg for whole bottles. Crushing glass allows you to pack significantly more weight into each 1-tonne bulk bag, reduces transportation volume, and speeds up furnace processing. On a 34-tonne load, crushing your glass earns you an extra R3,400 in profit!
